Google project
was given an assignment to do on Google Project & one of the resources is this article on Google.
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/products/services/2005-09-18-google-copyright_x.htm debating on whether Google is right or wrong in the current digital book project that it is engaged in.
i personally thought that's one of the best idea that Google has ever had.
for one, it allowed last minute students like me who left their submissions to the very last minute to have better access to much needed and critical information needed to help them secure that good grade.
after all, you can't possibly be that naive to think that there will still be books left in the school library the day before your submission is due, when so many other students might be working on the same topics & thus needing the same materials. & they are probably more well prepared or extremely kiasu & therefore, no good books would be left for u to borrow out isn't it?
so, for as long as i remain a student bounded by pointless assignments, i will definitely support the Google project! scan more books online mans! the more the merrier!

email floods from twitter
was checking my gmail & promptly got a shock.
there's so many emails from twitter, telling me so and so is following me on twitter now.
much as i am happy that i am having some headway increasing the number of followers on my twitter network, i'm still a little irritated by the emails flood.
time to figure out how to shut off email notifications.

quote of the day
"May there be peace within.. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us."

Blk 21 Zi Char in Toa Payoh
had dinner earlier at Toa payoh at one of the Zi Char stalls featured by mediacorp. Sadly, it wasn't exactly a fantastic experience that i could rave about.
1. We reserved a table without pre-ordering the dishes. Being first timers, we didn't know what's good on the menu so decided to check it out when we reached instead. *bad#1 wrong move in not pre ordering*
2. Subsequently, waited more than an hr for the food to come. *bad#2 slow service = not fantastic when ur starving*
3. Unpredictable weather in Singapore. From an originally cooling night out under the stars into a near disaster of rainstorm. *bad#3 Having to gorge on our food after starving to avoid the storm*
4. So we relocated to the only other table which was smaller & that couldn't quite accommodate all our food. It also happened to be beside a table of very serious chain smokers. *bad#4 dying a slow death from inhaling 2nd hand smoke over dinner*
bad#4 definitely has to be the worst. i was attempting to breathe through my mouth to avoid the horrid stench, & at the same time, trying to eat my food & satisfy my badly starved stomach that is beyond hunger.
Everything didn't quite taste fantastic & the cigarette stench was confusing my taste bud & everything other thing in my mouth.
not to mention i nearly a. suffocate due to lack of oxygen intake via my mouth, & b. choked on my food while gorging myself & trying to gulp in air at the same time.
How can i not complain about smokers in this case? especially when my whole living room turns into a smoking room every time some stupid neighbor staying around us smokes, not once, not twice but ga-zilion times a day??!! how do i not make myself curse them in this case??!!

young women leadership connection
so finally, once in a blue moon, the boring girl gets out of her comfortable position at home & venture out for something interesting.
as the title suggests, yes you got it. so what does the very serious title refers to?
its this young woman's group that is coming up, and very fortunately, was nominated by Dr Lena Lee to attend this event yesterday evening at UBS AG at one Raffles Quay N. Tower.
First impression of the place? GORGEOUS! if i ever get to work in a place like that, i would totally love to go to work everyday. heck. i probably wouldn't even mind staying over to work overtime.
the view there is awesome. overlooking the bay, high up on 49 level.. & the skyscrappers & lights at night.. awesome!
so back to YWLC. its actually an initiative launched by Mrs. Lim Hwee Hua, Minister (Prime Minister's Office) and Second Minister for Finance and Transport, with the support of UBS and other established women leaders and currently led by a board of student / young working ladies exco.
So.. Mrs Lim shared quite a lot of interesting insights with us.. pretty interesting, the amount of political figures involved in this aside. hopefully it wouldn't turn into another aware gone wrong.
Then my personal favorite is the address by Dr Dr. Jannie Tay, whom if you don't already know, is the founder of The Hour Glass. She's this really cool and awesome lady in her 60s.. (amazing if you ask me coz she definitely doesnt look past 50 & her energy level & the rapid mind behind the youthful face..amazing.) Gave us a lot to reflect on definitely. haha. not to mention her pro family stand. the number of times she emphasized on us finding our husbands instead of merely focusing on ourselves & advancing our career is funny and at the same time endearing. kinda like how i would imagine my grandmother would talk to me.

little mishap, immense guilt.
sighs. had a little misfortune in the kitchen earlier.. dropped the damn scalding hot pot lid while taking soup for tonight's dinner...
so wad can be the worst thing? that it dropped on my feet & gave me a bad swell from the scalding and the impact of the heavy metal lid falling on my feet?
nahs..
no foot were in the way. but the loud commotion gave him a scare & he ended spilling steaming hot soup over his hand while trying to get out of the way of the falling lid..
n now he has swollen n red fingers to prove it. :(
to think tt he finally comes over for dinner.. n i ended up causing physical harm to him.
sighs. damn guilty now. sorry bb!! :( :(

SE Xperia X1
Xperia has a improved version now! Xperia X1!
getting so tired of my useless pretty pink phone that only allows me to perform all the basic functions without being able to log on online via mobile browser because it is not wifi enabled. data charges in singapore is really expensive too.
xperia x1 comes with my favourite qwerty keyboard! but the colors are really boring too. even though its touch screen & qwerty @ the same time.
hmmm...
this...
versus this....

OPI berry berry broadway
i've never quite understand why O.P.I. nail enamel colors are selling for such a high price in nail parlours. then when more n more nail services started using O.P.I. colours, my amazement increased.
until......................
i finally opened 1 of the 3 bottles i bought back from usa university avenue!
omgomgomgomgomgomg.
the colors r fantastic. bad painting skills aside. it still looks fantastic.
not to mention its super quick drying!!!
i barely just fin painting my right hand a& the fingers on the left r dry! even though i took much longer to paint the right fingers.. bt still, i'm sure i din tk tt long exactly!
how awesome! check it out! my pretty nail colors [pretend u didn't notice the smudges at the side caused by bad painting =D]
*hearts!!*
n now i'm totally hooked to O.P.I. !!
like how can i resist its pretty colors, & glide on easily & smoothly quality.
only downside.. my nails r so pretty i gt to type extra cautiously in a rather awkward manner in order not to damage them.

*~Past & present @ no.5 Emerald Hills for a night of celebration.~*
the month of september brings about several september babies! just for the small batch of 27 people in i3 alone, there are 4 september babies!
but of course, though 27 may not be that big a group, everyone is of course not super close to every single one of the interns.
so.. we only ended up celebrating the bdays of 2 babies out of 4. [*ahem* the 3rd baby that was supposed to turn up, didn't. tsk HP.]
dinner was kinda awkward initially wen we walked into the restaurant, and was led to our reserved table. 5 big tables joined together a few steps from the main entrance.
of which................. 2 of them are empty. last min cancellations, naughty fellows..
but the most hilarious was when i stepped in, n poor lyon was sitted there in the middle of the long tables, looking really lonely, and slightly in disbelief, coz he rushed over thinking his late (since it was close to 7pm, which was the stipulated meeting time), but when he reached, he couldn't spot any familiar faces, and had to check with reservations, only to realized one whole big empty table. -_-''' poor thing.
n? people only started strolling in around 7 ish.. with me, being the second to stroll in at 7.20pm after many happy hours at Kbox screaming my lungs out. n e rest of the lost lambs streaming in from 7.30pm onwards.
but life goes on, and so does our dinner..
with the initially awkward dinner out of the way, we had to rush over to our next destination, No.5 Emerald Hills soon after, due to a really stupid policy of being unable to hold reservations from 9pm onwards. like wth. since anyway, i called n told them i got stuck in a jam, then called again to say we can't find the way, and the table was held till almost 9pm anyway. talk about lame policies.
1st impression of Emerald: BAD. y did i go to all the trouble of booking and rushing only to get such normal looking and really squeezy small round tables similar to those at Kilineys, only to sit right next to the stairs, constantly disturbed by people walking up and down?!
naturally, i will make noise.. so we talk to tom dick & harry & almost everyone other people in sight that we could possibly talk to & finally, managed to clear up the miscommunication!! that's not our reservation!! coz apparently their reservation for level 1 & 2 is different, & so is all the ordering & all.
but, that aside, since they cleared up (though only after we made alot of noise. & mind u, none, & i mean NO ONE from Emeralds called to check if i'll be coming to claim the reservation. Luckily for them, they did not release my table (else i'll definitely give them hell for mixing up my reservation only to release my table, all coz they screw up reservations!).
the platform that was reserved looks rather cool, in a corner of its own, elevated, and away from the rest of the pub goers. pretty cool ambience and music for chilling, and simply hugging the pillows on the platform seats, while catching up with each other, talking about both important and mostly unimportant stuff is really great with the seats we r allocated.
the two happy ladies who are so contented settling against the pillows they really have no complains. :D
& of course the 2 for $15 martinis promo! the green one is the watermelon martini i cant rem the name.

sadly, drinks r nt tt great. the watermelon martini (cant rem the name, except that its one of the last few names listed), tastes horrid, more vodka than martini. the Choya one which my frens liked was too sweet for my liking & tasted more like pure choya than liquor. my favourite? Lychee martini!! slightly sweet but not too sweet, with just the right dose of martini taste (but what goes into a martini exactly? vodka? brandy? cognac?) drank a glass of that, thanks to tony, who was sweet enough to switch his drink with the drink that i don't like. hehe. lucky gf of his, to have such a great guy for a bf! (:
interior of Emerald which we didn't quite managed to capture on photos. on photos it just looks like slum areas.

while we looked like well dressed POWs staying in the prison cell.
all in all, an awesome gathering! & the september babies sure walked away feeling happy! happy bdays again dearies! (:

those new addictive social networking sites are scaring me!
friendster, facebook, twitter, myspace, linkedin are just several of the many other social networking sites that are all the rage everywhere around the world right now.
not that all those mentioned are the rage in singapore nor with me.
facebook would probably be the most popular one in singapore i guess with twitter's popularity going up.
personally, i've got a facebook, which was previously rather dormant till my internship program and especially after returning from the study mission and road trip. where we were signed on facebook all the while loading and checking new photos that were uploaded.
*bad sign #1: constant new updates that possibly involves u*
n seeing those photos, some pretty, some ugly, some totally unglamorous and should never have been posted online.. but if the unglamorous involves some other people. than that's downright hilarious. n of course, u definitely HAVE TO comment on it. i mean, how can u possibly resist the urge to laugh at others, laugh at urself with others, or attempt to damage control and justify your own unglamorous photos right?
*bad sign #2: getting the MUST comment urge that refuses to go away till u click send*
with comments, there's bound to be replies. so of course after commenting, one will be so tempted to constantly check the fb page for replies & see just how much more funnier it can get.
*bad sign #3: constantly refreshing fb to check on incoming replies*
and everyone knows that replies always has a high potential to be controversial. & if it is, most often can't ignore the need to provide their two cents worth of counter argument to that controversial reply.
*bad sign #4: itching to argue back*
and the vicious cycle continues for fb.
then there's twitter.. though i still can't get the hang of twitter, but as more friends joins the network, the same kinda feelings for fb are awaken. only that in this case its more to comment & re-comment on replies. but there u go, the same kind of desire and finger itching to type and press the "send" button.
so.. tel me... how can someone not be highly addicted to all these in singapore especially when internet connection is readily available and when both work & personal matters demands us to stay connected regularly or better still 24/7??
now, are u getting paranoid too now that u are nodding too frequently to the bad signs being brought up in this blog entry?
oh yeah. btw, since i'm already addicted to it. why not make it even more addictive & exciting? follow me on twitter if u have an account too.

a short break from school
this is probably going to be the last semester of my 3 years in college..
n seriously, i'm having mixed feelings right now.
having returned from states a second time after the summer break, dissatified with life back here, I'm kinda relieved to be having mid term break, a week away from school. to relax and chill and simply to slack around.
at the same time, that also means that i'm going to graduate real soon. in just another half a semester's time.
time seemed to be passing by so slowly & quickly at the same time.
i should be actively searching for a job in order not to waste time after graduation bumming around doing nothing constructive.
yet, i'm totally lost right now, not knowing what I should do.
what kind of jobs i am interested in.
what do i want to work as.
what kinda of job is gonna springboard me to my dream job.
searching for a job seemed to be an extremely important thing right now. unlike part time jobs during vacations, i cant afford to find something non constructive to screw up my life.
nor can i just take any job comes my way & slack off should i not like it.
i feel so burdened by the knowledge that comes with an adult, and maturity.
yet i am unable to return to the carefree-ness and little responsibilities of a younger individual.
for i know that is just living in self denial.
for i know that i cannot be doing this to myself, nor to my parents who will soon be depending on me in a few more years to come.
for i know that once u grow up, its hard to go back to times when your young and ignorant, blissfully oblivious to the world out there, to the responsibilities, the sufferings, the hardships and the achievements and fruits of labor.
does everyone goes through this phase?
this horrible and disoriented phase that makes one so lost but at the same time seemed to be filled with promises?
i do not know.
i only pray that i will tide through this strange and really lost phase sooner than later.
to find my so called "calling".
or at least not screw up my life.
i don't want to live a wasteful and aimless life like those who did not have a easier life.
not me. never.

manicures: is it worth it?
mans.
i'm either too impatient.
or e nail polish is gone thats y its all congealed.
which explains why i cant paint proper.
either that or i really suck at painting nails.
y didn't i go for e manicure that time.
rather than think that i could save that money and paint it myself since i'm so free this hols.
hmm. perhaps being free at home doesnt equate to having sufficient patience to paint your nails properly.
not to mention that the nail polish is hardening n making it difficult to spread the color.
damn.
n i wish theres some kinda odourless nail polish.
though its pretty, but nail polish do stink alot.
hmm. money & trouble. manicure n diy.
hmm. remind me of all tt trouble again nxt time i tink i shld nt go for a manicure.
damn.
